Carpet size and layout
Determine the ideal size and position for your carpet.
Precisely choosing the right size and positioning of your carpet is crucial to ensuring comfort and a final result that lives up to your expectations. Size is determined before the rug is purchased, and takes into account several key elements, such as the room for which it is intended, its surface area, and the arrangement of the furniture in the room to balance the whole aesthetically. A visual assessment is not enough, as you risk choosing a carpet that is too small and will get lost in the space. On the other hand, dimensions that are much too large could create a visual imbalance. To find the perfect balance, we recommend using our augmented reality technology available on smartphone and computer, or measuring the exact surface to be covered by your rug. This can be done using a standard tape measure, chalk markings or special painter's tape.
Here are our tips for choosing the right size and positioning for each room in your home:
The living room.
A true master of ceremonies, the living room rug comes in rectangular, round or oval form and sets the overall mood of the home; It sublimates and defines different zones in the same space. When combined with the sofa, it should be at least as long as the latter. Ideally, it should protrude 10 to 30 centimetres on each side.
- So, in a spacious living room, a generous sofa will naturally go well with a large shag or shag rug, depending on your preference. Depending on the size of the sofa, the entire seat of the sofa can be placed on the rug, creating a harmonious visual effect.
- For smaller living rooms, a medium-sized rug can be placed under the two front legs of the sofa.
- For small spaces, we recommend using a small rug and placing it directly at the foot of your sofa. You can then position complementary elements such as a coffee table.
The bedroom.
As the sanctuary of your well-being, the bedroom requires a crucial choice of carpets to ensure maximum comfort.
- For a spacious bedroom, it's best to opt for a large, soft, plush rug, with long or short pile, depending on your preference. The bed can be placed entirely on top of it, forming a harmonious perimeter around the bed.
- A more intimate bedroom requires a medium-sized rug where the bed will rest for the most part, while bedside tables and furniture will be placed on the floor to create a delicate balance.
- For smaller rooms, small rugs can be used around the bed to punctuate the space with touches of comfort and visual harmony.
The dining room.
For a refined living space that will make you proud to entertain your guests, opt for rectangular, round, oval or square models, in flat or short-pile weaves, to facilitate the movement of the chairs and table under which they will be placed. The most important thing to consider is the size of the table and chairs to be used.
- A table of up to 6 guests is best served on a large rug measuring 160 x 230 cm or 200 x 290 cm.
- As for round tables, they will reveal all their elegance when placed in the center of a similarly shaped rug, creating a visually pleasing composition.
The exterior
For outdoor spaces, the choice of carpet size and placement depends on the size of the area to be covered : balcony, terrace, garden, jacuzzi or sauna area... Commonly adopted dimensions oscillate around 80 x 150 cm on average. Nevertheless, you are free to choose dimensions that reflect your preferences, as long as they fit in perfectly with the space you are planning. You can also consider arranging several rugs for a chic, comfortable effect. Choose our flat woven carpets, which are more resistant and easier to clean. Refer to our outdoor carpets, UV-protected carpets, durable carpets or easy-care carpets ...
